Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach Teaches Culinary Skills to Local Children at Yaowawit School, Phang-Nga Province

Phuket, Thailand, 29 August 2019 - Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach recently took part in an important CSR activity aimed at teaching culinary skills to local schoolchildren.

The hotel’s kitchen team visited Yaowawit School in Phang-Nga Province, southern Thailand, to share their knowledge with 40 young students in grades 4 to 6. During the class, the students were taught how to make the popular Thai dessert “tab tim krob” (water chestnut rubies in coconut milk).

The aim of this activity was to enhance the children’s confidence in the kitchen and to help them develop more advanced hospitality skills that could benefit them in their future lives. The event also provided a good opportunity to introduce the youngsters to possible future career in the culinary sector.

Marriott has undertaken this important CSR initiative since 2018, as part of its long-standing mission to upskill young people in Phuket and Thailand’s southern provinces. The overall goal is to educate students about the different career paths available to them and to teach them practical skills. Various courses are taught, including housekeeping, kitchen skills, hotel operations and more, which could help to fulfil the long-term demand for new hospitality professionals in the region.

This CSR project is in line with Marriott Hotels’ core brand value, “serving our world,” which strives to make a positive difference in every community in which the company operates. It also forms part of the group’s global “Spirit to Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction” program.
